David Carrero Fernández-Baillo develops Mbox Viewer and writes everything published here: the guides, the blog and the glossary. He works from Color Vivo Internet, S.L., the company behind the app on the Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store.

The app did not start as an app. It grew out of mboxShell, an open-source terminal tool for reading MBOX files, published on GitHub and still maintained there. Mbox Viewer is the native Mac and Windows version of that same idea, and the two are still developed side by side.

One decision shapes the whole product: an email archive is read where it sits. No conversion, no import step, no cloud and no telemetry — the file is opened read-only and left exactly as it was found. Everything written on this site follows from having built the thing that does it.
