Version 2.10.0 `Beta`

# Mbox Viewer Pro for Linux

The same app as on Mac and Windows, with the same features, built natively with GTK 4 and libadwaita. It opens MBOX and EML files of any size on your own computer, without uploading anything. Without a licence it works as the free version, with mailboxes up to 1 GB and no time limit.

This is the first version for Linux and it is still in beta: it has the same features as on Mac and Windows, but it has been tested on fewer distributions and desktops. If something doesn't work on yours, write to us and tell us which distribution, version and desktop you use. [Report a problem](https://mboxviewerpro.com/support/)

x86\_64 is for Intel and AMD processors; ARM64 for ARM ones. If you are not sure, run uname -m in a terminal: x86\_64 or aarch64.

## Ubuntu and Debian

Ubuntu 24.04 or later · Debian 13

[Download .deb · x86\_64](https://download.mboxviewerpro.com/linux/mboxviewerpro_amd64.deb) [Download .deb · ARM64](https://download.mboxviewerpro.com/linux/mboxviewerpro_arm64.deb)

Double-click the file to install it with your software centre, or install it from a terminal in the folder where you downloaded it:

`sudo apt install ./mboxviewerpro_amd64.deb` Copy

The package adds our signed repository, so new versions arrive with the rest of the system updates.

## Fedora

Fedora 44 or later

[Download .rpm · x86\_64](https://download.mboxviewerpro.com/linux/mboxviewerpro.x86_64.rpm) [Download .rpm · ARM64](https://download.mboxviewerpro.com/linux/mboxviewerpro.aarch64.rpm)

Double-click the file to install it with your software centre, or install it from a terminal in the folder where you downloaded it:

`sudo dnf install ./mboxviewerpro.x86_64.rpm` Copy

The package adds our signed repository, so new versions arrive with the rest of the system updates.

## Flatpak

Any distribution with Flatpak

[Install with Flatpak](https://download.mboxviewerpro.com/linux/com.mboxviewerpro.MboxViewerPro.flatpakref)

Open the file to install it with your software centre, or from a terminal. The GNOME runtime comes from Flathub.

`flatpak install https://download.mboxviewerpro.com/linux/com.mboxviewerpro.MboxViewerPro.flatpakref` Copy

## Requirements

- x86\_64 (Intel and AMD) and ARM64 processors.
- GTK 4.14, libadwaita 1.5 and WebKitGTK 6 or later. The packages install them if they are missing; Flatpak brings its own.
- It works on GNOME, KDE Plasma, Xfce, Cinnamon and MATE.

## Pro on Linux

The free version is the way to try the app: there is no Pro trial, and Pro is always paid. You buy it on our website and the same key works on Mac, Windows and Linux, with the same computers: the lifetime licence covers 3 and the annual one 2, in any mix.

To activate it, open the licence screen in the app and enter your email and the key. Activation needs internet; after that the app works offline.

## Mbox Viewer on Linux

How to install it, how it updates and how to remove it.

### Updates

With the .deb or the .rpm, new versions come through the system updates (Software Updater, Discover, GNOME Software) or from the terminal. With Flatpak, from the software centre or with flatpak update:

Ubuntu · Debian

`sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade` Copy

Fedora

`sudo dnf upgrade --refresh` Copy

Flatpak

`flatpak update` Copy

Once a day the app also checks whether there is a new version and lets you know; it never updates itself. You can turn this off in Settings › General › Updates. In Flatpak it comes switched off, because the software centre already tells you.

### Uninstall

Use the command for the way you installed it. Your mailboxes and the index files next to them are not touched.

Ubuntu · Debian

`sudo apt remove mboxviewerpro` Copy

Fedora

`sudo dnf remove mboxviewerpro` Copy

Flatpak

`flatpak uninstall com.mboxviewerpro.MboxViewerPro` Copy

On Ubuntu and Debian, purge instead of remove also deletes our repository and its key.

## Language of the system dialogs

The app has its 21 languages built in. The open and save dialogs and buttons such as “Cancel” come from GTK and use the languages installed on the system. If you choose a different language from the system's in the app settings, install it too. On Ubuntu, for example for Spanish:

`sudo apt install language-pack-gnome-es-base` Copy

With Flatpak:

`flatpak config --user --set extra-languages "es" && flatpak update` Copy

## Check the downloads

The APT and DNF repositories, the .rpm packages and the Flatpak repository are signed with our GPG key. This is its fingerprint:

8065 3896 AC38 52E2 F8B2 D899 3848 3C92 333C B15D

To check it, download the public key and compare the fingerprint that gpg shows with this one:

`curl -fsSL https://download.mboxviewerpro.com/linux/mboxviewerpro.asc | gpg --show-keys` Copy

Prefer the terminal? mboxShell, our command-line tool, is free and open source, and it also runs on Linux. [See mboxShell](https://mboxviewerpro.com/mboxshell/)
